There are few places in the world that capture the magic of the Mediterranean quite like the Greek Islands, and Celestyal’s Idyllic Greece cruise is a wonderful way to experience them. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, whitewashed villages, ancient ruins, incredible cuisine, and unforgettable sunsets make Greece one of the world’s most famous travel destinations.
This month, my featured journey is a seven-night voyage through the Aegean, combining iconic Greek islands with a fascinating stop in Kusadasi, Turkey. Whether you’re visiting Greece for the first time or returning to discover more of its hidden gems, this itinerary offers the perfect blend of history, culture, relaxation, and breathtaking scenery.

Why I Recommend This Cruise
I went on my first Greek Islands cruise with Celestyal in 2023, and I loved it so much that I went again in 2025. I’m already planning another one next year, so I genuinely think this is one cruise itinerary you shouldn’t miss.
Celestyal specializes in Greek Island cruises, and because of that, the whole experience feels much more authentic. If you’re looking for the best Greek cruise experience, I highly recommend sailing with them.
One of my favorite views from the ship was arriving in Santorini. Watching the island appear from the sea is simply unforgettable.
After all, these are the Greek Islands – I really don’t think I need to convince you that they’re worth visiting.
The Itinerary
Athens, Greece
Your adventure begins in the birthplace of democracy.
I highly recommend arriving at least one day before your cruise. Flights can be delayed, and having an extra day allows you to explore the city without worrying about missing embarkation.
If this is your very first cruise, don’t miss my guide on 21 First-Time Cruise Tips for a Stress-Free Vacation. It covers everything from embarkation day and packing to avoiding common mistakes, so you’ll feel much more prepared before setting sail.
Spend time visiting the Acropolis, wandering through the charming streets of Plaka, and enjoying authentic Greek food in one of the traditional tavernas.
Athens perfectly blends thousands of years of history with modern Mediterranean life.

Kusadasi, Turkey
Your first international stop takes you to the vibrant coastal town of Kusadasi.
The highlight here is the nearby ancient city of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in the world. Walking through its marble streets feels like stepping back into the Roman Empire.
You’ll also find lively markets, beautiful waterfront cafés, and excellent shopping opportunities.
My tip: Visit some of the local Turkish clothing stores. The quality of the materials is excellent, and the prices are often much lower than in many European countries.
Rhodes, Greece
Rhodes offers one of the most impressive medieval Old Towns in Europe.
Protected by ancient walls and filled with cobblestone streets, castles, churches, and charming squares, it’s a destination where history truly comes alive.
Outside the Old Town, you’ll find beautiful beaches and crystal-clear bays that are perfect for relaxing.
Crete, Greece
As Greece’s largest island, Crete offers an incredible combination of mythology, history, and natural beauty.
Depending on your port of call, you may visit the legendary Palace of Knossos, explore picturesque Venetian harbors, or simply enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine and warm hospitality.
Crete is widely considered one of Greece’s culinary capitals.
Santorini, Greece
No Greek Islands cruise would be complete without Santorini.
Famous for its whitewashed buildings, blue-domed churches, and dramatic volcanic cliffs, Santorini is one of the most photographed destinations in the world.
Watching the sunset over the caldera belongs on everyone’s travel bucket list.
Another thing I loved was the incredible view back towards the sea, where you can see your cruise ship anchored below the cliffs. It’s one of those moments you’ll never forget.

Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos perfectly balances traditional Cycladic charm with a lively atmosphere.
Stroll through its maze-like streets filled with boutiques and cafés, visit the famous Mykonos windmills, or relax on one of the island’s beautiful beaches.
One fun activity is trying to find Petros the Pelican, Mykonos’ famous mascot. He doesn’t have a fixed location because he wanders around the town. Sometimes people even upload his current location to Google Maps – but you’ll need to be quick because he keeps moving!
For me, this was one of the funniest moments of the trip because I honestly thought he was a statue at first!
Milos, Greece
Often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbors, Milos is one of Greece’s hidden treasures.
Known for its dramatic rock formations, secluded beaches, colorful fishing villages, and crystal-clear waters, Milos feels more authentic and peaceful than many other islands.
If you’re looking for postcard-worthy scenery without the crowds, Milos may become your favorite stop of the journey.
Why This Cruise Stands Out
What makes this itinerary special is its variety.
In just seven nights, you’ll experience:
- Ancient Greek and Roman history
- Medieval castles and UNESCO World Heritage sites
- Traditional island villages
- Volcanic landscapes
- Stunning beaches
- Greek and Turkish cuisine
- World-famous sunsets
- Local culture across multiple destinations
It’s the perfect itinerary for travelers who want to experience the best of the Aegean without constantly packing, unpacking, and planning transportation between islands.
Is This Cruise Right for You?
I recommend this itinerary if you:
- Are visiting Greece for the first time
- Love history, archaeology, and culture
